Stories from Borneo #11

When the court case was ongoing, we had to abandon our farms. There wasn’t any time to look after it. We got back at 7 PM. By the time we hiked back to our home it was already close to midnight. The next day we had to wake up at 4 or 5 AM so we can be in Kuching by 9 AM. Some days we didn’t have enough to eat, or even time to eat as the paddy rot in the fields.

Before all this happened I worked in hotels. But father called me back when things became serious. I’ve been here helping out with the family, farm amd our guiding services ever since.

I plan to leave soon. Get another job in the city. Of course, it’s nice here but I want to do things on my own. Here there are limited opportunities. Hopefully he’ll let me go this time.
